Hope all of you had a great Easter.
Hoang and I decided to take some time off and drive to Germany. We were looking for a nice exotic place where to go for our long weekend and our choice was: Hamburg
Well, Spain and Greece were also on the list, but for 4 days we felt it was not really worth it.
For our Germany trip we decided to drive. Amsterdam – Hamburg is about 4 to 5 hours’ drive, I guess that depends on how much you take advantage of the no-speed limit on the German motorway. We did and it was great!!
Today’s post is not like the others, we are not posting a recipe that we did, but we are posting some pictures of the food that we ate in Hamburg, which is famous for its fish and for a particular sweet.
German food has not got the complexity of the Mediterranean or Asian cuisine. It is not consistent, however it has some gems that are worth mentioning.
When we arrived we started by renting a couple of bikes and cycled down to the harbor, a glimpse of how fast the city is and how crucial is for the European sea trade.
The scene from the harbor is not what you could define as a nice view, but it is certainly an interesting one. A busy stream of water filled with shipping boats, ferries and container cranes.
Opposite you have the city, with its modern and less-modern architecture, the beautiful villas by the beach, and a very long promenade with bars and kiosks that serve hundreds of people passing by.
I must admit we were blessed with an amazing weather, that made our trip significantly more exciting than, say, if it had rained the whole time.
We had lunch in a cute little bistro at the end of the promenade, at dock 10 called Brucke 10. If you happen to be in Hamburg, pay this place a visit.
There we had :
Krabbenbrötchen (a mini baguette with shrimps)
Matjes and bread (a mini baguette with harring and onions)
Brathering (a mini baguette with this traditional lightly fried and marinated herring…Delicious!!)
Seelachs (another mini baguette with pollock)
Do not forget to order Alsterwasser, perfect drink for these fish baguettes.
One other thing we were advised to try was the Franzbrötchen (Top picture). For that we found a cute little bakery around where we stayed (bear in mind that during our Easter weekend a lot of shops were in fact closed )
We will publish the recipe of this sweet because it deserves it. Courtesy of Lekker and yummy recipes
Sorry for the quality of the pictures this time. We had the camera with us but forgot an important thing, to charge the battery For this post we took pictures with our phones. I hope they are enough for you to have an idea of the deliciousness of what we ate
